FAQ

I don’t like to have my picture taken and I want to lose at least 10 pounds before the session.

When we hear someone say they don’t like how they look in photos, it’s often because the image was taken by a well-meaning coworker, friend, or family member—someone without professional training in lighting, posing, or using the right focal lengths. Simply put, they’re not a professional photographer.

Creating a portrait you’ll love begins with thoughtful planning and a shift in focus—away from what you don’t like and toward what you do. While many of us feel the pressure to lose a few pounds before a big event, the truth is, with expert lighting, posing, and placement, we can help you look and feel your best without waiting for the “perfect time.”

Rich is a Master Photographer with the training, experience, and creative eye to bring out your best. Whether it’s for your family, personal branding, or business, he’ll create a portrait you’ll be proud to hang in your home or share with your community—one that reflects the real, confident you.

Why should I hire a professional photographer when my friend has a really good camera and takes nice pictures?

If you’re only looking for “nice,” you’re not aiming to stand out—you’re settling for ordinary. And while that may seem like the more affordable option, the truth is, it’s not always the smartest investment.

When every dollar matters, it’s even more important to invest in quality. Choosing the right photographer ensures you receive images that make an impact—images that reflect your personality, your story, and your brand.

Our clients value quality over quantity. They don’t want 100 generic images on a USB—they want 25 exceptional portraits with beautiful lighting, natural retouching, and emotional storytelling. Whether it’s for a wall-worthy collection or bold marketing materials, these images are created to make a lasting impression.

How should I prepare for my session?

Once your session date is confirmed, start planning early. Have your clothing selected and ironed the day before. Try to stay relaxed—especially if you’re bringing young children. Kids are sensitive to stress, and a calm, positive attitude will help set the tone for a successful session.

What should I know about hair and makeup?

Avoid trying a brand-new hairstyle the day of your session. Instead, schedule haircuts about a week before. Both fresh, natural makeup and slightly more polished “evening” makeup photograph beautifully. Choose what makes you feel confident and comfortable.

Can I wear glasses in my portrait?

Yes, but be mindful. While we can remove basic glare in editing, heavily tinted or thick lenses may distort your eyes or face in photos. If possible, ask your optometrist for a pair of clear, non-prescription frames to use during your session to avoid extra retouching charges.

What should we wear for family or group portraits?

Coordination is key when it comes to creating a portrait you’ll love for years to come. Just like you’d carefully choose colors when decorating your home, the same thoughtfulness should go into selecting outfits for your session. Stick to similar tones and avoid bright colors, bold patterns, stripes, or checks, as they can be distracting and don’t always photograph well.

Neutral, classic pieces tend to work best for a timeless, cohesive look. Be mindful of heavy color contrasts too—these can draw the eye to the point of greatest contrast on the body (often the waist), which most clients prefer to avoid emphasizing.
